‘I’ll just kick your ass’: Uniformed cop offended by short joke threatened citizen

The white Maricopa Police Department officer caught on tape saying, “You’re so Black” and “I can kick your ass” because she was offended has resigned, a police spokesperson said Friday.

MPD this week released video footage of a conversation between former Officer Tracy Slider and a gas station employee about respect and body shaming.

The video tape surfaced after an InMaricopa Freedom of Information Act request for bodycam footage of an arrest involving a failed burglary and stolen lawn gnome last year . This footage shows Slider stopping at Circle K, 18141 N. John Wayne Parkway, to fill up her tumbler with coffee.

Officer Slider has since resigned from MPD and was sworn into Arizona State University Police Department last month, according to ASUPD .

In the video, Slider speaks with an employee, referred to as “Deb,” at the coffee machines. Deb appears upset and apologizes to Slider for an incident a few days prior in which a person allegedly made a short joke about the pint-sized police officer.

“I feel it’s very disrespectful when people talk about my height or my size,” Slider says. “It’s just like me saying something to someone about their physical appearance.”

“‘My God you’re so tiny.’ What do you want me to say, ‘My God, you’re so fat,’ to someone?” she continued. “Imagine if I said that. God, you’re so Black. God, you’re so white. Do you know what I mean?”

Slider brought up another incident on Halloween in which a Circle K employee joked about her police uniform being a Halloween costume. Deb told Slider she knew she was upset “when you said, ‘I’ll just kick your ass.’”

Slider responded: “I said I can still kick your ass.”

Police spokesperson Monica Williams was not immediately available to provide comment.
