MPD to close for 2 days

Maricopa Police Department will close the doors of its administration building as it transitions to the new facility next door .

A note on the front door Friday announced the current building would be closed July 31 and Aug. 1.

The announcement comes as the department closes in on its July 27 ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new $24.5 million-dollar, 32,000-square-foot facility, with four holding cells, administration services and up to 20 dispatch consoles.

MPD spokesperson Monica Williams last month said “the move will take place over a designated weekend when admin staff are normally off,” and that for officers, “it will be business as usual.”  Now, the transition happens on a Wednesday and a Thursday.
