    Volunteer with the Latin American Association

    The Latin American Association is seeking volunteers for its annual health fair on Aug. 10 to provide free, life-saving screenings to the community.

    Little Brazil Community Fair calls for vendors

    The Little Brazil Foundation announced will have its first Community Fair from noon to 8 p.m. on Aug. 17.

    Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival announces headlining acts

    Kennesaw Parks & Recreation announced the headliners for the 2024 Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival, presented by Williams Elleby Howard & Easter.

    The acts on the Luzianne Tea Main Stage are Boy Named Banjo on Aug. 16 and Channing Wilson on Aug. 17. The festival will be 6 to 10 p.m. on Aug. 16 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Aug. 17 at Adams Park, 2600 Park Drive in Kennesaw.

    Scarecrows Return to Kennesaw’s Main Street

    The City of Kennesaw invites area residents, families, neighborhoods, non-profit, civic and faith-based organizations, local businesses, schools, local sports teams and athletic clubs to design and create a scarecrow to display on Main Street for the fifth annual “Scarecrows on Main” display.

    A $25 application fee to the Kennesaw Downtown Development Authority is required with the entry of each scarecrow. All monies raised will go to promoting the downtown through beautification projects and events. The deadline for applications is Sept. 15.

    The City of Kennesaw will upload images of each scarecrow to the Downtown Kennesaw Facebook page, where the community will be invited to cast their vote for their favorite scarecrows. The top three scarecrows will be awarded a “People’s Choice” award and the scarecrow with the most votes will receive bragging rights, as well as a $100 prize. Second place will receive a $50 prize and third place will receive a $25 prize.

    Kennesaw 101: The Citizens’ Leadership Academy

    The Kennesaw City Manager’s Office will host its latest class of Kennesaw 101: Citizens’ Leadership Academy.

    The multi-week course runs from Sept. 12 to Nov. 18 and is designed to provide an inside look at the day-to-day operations of Kennesaw, how it forms partnerships and how management approaches short-term and long-term planning.

    This program is open to anyone aged 18 or older who lives or works within Kennesaw’s city limits. Over the course of the program, participants will hear from various departments to learn about the diverse work undertaken by city staff and elected officials. Participants will participate in hands-on learning activities, facility tours and networking opportunities. Registration is limited to the first 15 registrants. Deadline to apply is Sept. 6. Classes will be every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

    The course will conclude with a short graduation ceremony during the Nov. 18 Mayor and Council meeting. At the completion of the program, participants will have a deep understanding of the structure, functions and responsibilities of local government. They will have the tools and knowledge needed to actively participate in their local government and take on leadership roles in their community with the overall goal of fostering positive change and contributing to the well-being of the city.

    Marietta Police Citizen’s Police Academy registration now open

    The Marietta Police Department Citizen’s Police Academy registration is now open.

    There is no charge for this class. Participants will meet every Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Space is limited. To participate, obtain an application at https://www.mariettaga.gov/245/Citizens-Police-Academy .

    HarvestFest Call for Artisans

    Marietta Parks, Recreation & Facilities is accepting applications to sell handmade arts and crafts items for the City of Marietta’s 47th Annual HarvestFest Arts and Crafts Festival held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 on Marietta Square.
