For years, some residents in Del Rey Oaks, Monterey and elsewhere have complained about airplane noise from flights taking off or landing at Monterey Regional Airport. Some of those complaints arose after the Federal Aviation Administration, which regulates all the flights coming to or leaving the airport, implemented in 2015 its “NextGen” technology at the facility, part of a nationwide effort to modernize how the agency manages federal airspace.

The first of the events is the Pet Parade. Greenfield cancer survivor leads Kiddie Kapers Parade as grand marshal
GREENFIELD — Greenfield’s Kelly Mata Navarro, a 12-year-old cancer survivor, was the grand marshal for this year’s California Rodeo Salinas’ Kiddie Kapers Parade. Navarro waved to the thousands of people lining the sides of South Main Street on July 14 from the back of a 1966 Ford Mustang, near the front of the parade lineup. Parade participants were mostly youth, ranging from babies in strollers up to a high school marching band.

NEW YORK — UC Santa Cruz graduate Marizza Delgado has been crowned Miss New York USA and will compete for Miss USA next month. Delgado graduated in 2021 with a bachelor's in technology and information management. During her time studying in Santa Cruz, she would commute to San Francisco for modeling shoots; having modeled for international brands including H&M, Lululemon, Adidas, American Eagle, NorthFace, Target and Macy's to name a few.

A preliminary 2.6 magnitude earthquake struck Friday morning southeast of Gilroy, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake struck at 6:33 a.m. and was centered about 15 miles southeast of Gilroy, the USGS said. No other information was immediately available. Updates to come.
