NEW BERN, N.C. — NEW BERN, Craven County — On the afternoon of June 30, 2024, at 4:57 P.M., a State Trooper was stationed facing east on NC 55 at the intersection of Glenburnie Road when 31-year-old Christopher Marsh crashed into the back of the Trooper's Patrol vehicle, causing it to travel 200 feet into the intersection.
Three-car collision on N.C. 58 kills two Sunday
CARTERET COUNTY — Two individuals died following a three-car collision on Sunday morning on N.C. 58 near Peletier. According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, around 10:30 on Sunday morning 48-year-old Steven Shelton of Ayden was traveling north when he attempted to pass another vehicle and hit 64-year-old Dale Mangum, of Angier, head-on. Mangum was traveling south. Following Shelton’s initial collision with Mangum, he collided with a Subaru Outback that was also traveling south.

Here, they hang out and repair their nets, clean and ice or salt their catch, and maybe cook or smoke some of it. Fish houses are generally close to land transportation routes. Craven County officials urge safety first for July 4th fireworks celebration
Craven County officials would like to remind everyone about the dangers of fireworks on the upcoming July 4th holiday. Chief of Police Pat Gallagher and Chief of Fire Damien Locklear advises everyone to leave the fireworks to the pros at locally hosted events, instead of having fireworks at home especially during our dry conditions.

James “Jamie” William Lewis Sr., 85, of Harkers Island, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the Harkers Island Methodist Church with Pastor Lee Pittard officiating. Following the service, interment will take place privately with close family at Vergie Mae Cemetery on Harkers Island.
