    Marinette thinclads kick off outdoor track season

    DENMARK, Wis. — The Marinette High School track and field team opened its outdoor season with a North Eastern Conference contest at Denmark on Tuesday.

    The Marine boys finished third and the girls fourth while Fox Valley Lutheran topped the competition on both sides.

    In the boys competition, FVL led the way with 150 points while Denmark was second at 91 points. Marinette (57) finished third, Clintonville (50) fourth and Wrightstown (18) fifth.

    In the girls’ competition, FVL took the win at 177 points followed by Denmark (66), Wrightstown (59), Marinette (37.5) and Clintonville (17.5).

    The Marine boys posted three event wins. Caden Genrich took the discus with a toss of 118 ‘0, while Frankie Marquardt won the shot put at 42’ 9 and the team of Braxton Polzin, Luke Adams, Mason Hofherr and Elijah Wimbush took the 400m relay in 46.12 seconds.

    Genrich and Marquardt dominated the throws. Genrich won the discus and was third in the shot put at 40 ‘1.5. Marquardt edged Denmark’s Gabe North by one inch in the shot put and placed fifth in the discus at 99 ‘4.

    Polzin, Adams, Hofherr and Wimbush got together again in the 4x200m relay, carrying the baton 800m in 1:35.54 which was good for a runner-up finish.

    Jackson Draheim was second in the 400m run with a PR of 53.51 seconds. Kaiden Brown took third in the 200m dash with a time of 24.96 seconds.

    Hunter Schneider (2:23.39) and Evan Reines (2:25.25) placed fifth and sixth in the 800m.

    The Marine girls got a win from Addison Lacy who took the 3200m run in a time of 13:16.55.

    Lacy along with Madison Kunick, Anna Marzahl and Lauren Sadowski took second in the 3200m relay with a time of 11:02.00.

    Nat Poquette and Jadyn Sherwood placed third and fourth respectively in the discus at 89’9 and 81’5. Sherwood was third in the shot put at 28’1 while Poquette was sixth at 26’4.

    Kunick and Marzahl finished third and fifth respectively in the 800m with times of 2:42.81 and 2:44.67.

    Bailey Krouth placed third in the 400m at 1:06.92.

    Up nextMarinette: The Marines hosted the Purple Power Invitational on Thursday, with results unavailable at press time.
