MARION, S.C. (WBTW) — Three people arrested Tuesday in the killing of a man in Marion in June initially told police that a 3-year-old had accidentally shot the man to death.

Marion residents Dre’shawn Jy’rine Dorsey, 20, Laniya Ashley Hall, 37, and Jacorial Takyra Gregg, 21, face charges in the June 3 killing of Nigeria Davis. It happened in the 1100 block of Strawberry Street.

“Initially, investigators were led to believe that the shooting was an accident and the victim was shot by a 3-year-old,” Marion police said Wednesday in a news release. “After further investigation, it was determined that [the] victim had been shot by Mr. Dre’shawn Dorsey, not by a 3-year-old.”

Dorsey is charged with murder; discharging firearms into a dwelling; discharging a firearm in city limits; possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime; pointing and presenting a firearm at a person; and unlawfully placing a child at risk.

Hall and Gregg are charged with obstructing justice and accessory after the fact of murder. All three suspects are being held at the Marion County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Marion police at 843-423-8616 or through the department’s app for iPhone and Android devices. Tips can remain anonymous.
