After weeks of conducting its own internal investigation into the findings at the marlin animal shelter, the city council announced Tuesday they would be taking "no action".

The decision came after the council met in executive session during Tuesday's council meeting.

While city leaders declined to talk with 25 news , I spoke to animal activists who tell me they are frustrated but not surprised with the city's results.

"We were already prepared for that. the city struggles with holding itself accountable so we did not expect anything different with this investigation,” said animal advocate Dorothy Sanders.

" Yes, we are definitely being abandoned by the city of Marlin. We would've hoped that the city made strides forward before we had to push them, unfortunately that did not happen. We are waiting for the criminal investigation and that's where all of our faith lies because we believe the Texas Rangers will find something,” said animal advocate Valerie Mann.

Animal advocates tell me they spoke with the city investigator, Ron Davis, who shared with them a list of people he planned to interview

" I feel like it's part of the cover up. It makes me question. I know what evidence was provided, I sat down myself with the city investigator. The three people that they selected to interview from the Justice for Marlin dog group were not even people that were at the shelter on January 9th or 10th,” said Sanders.

Activists tell 25 news now all their hope is in the criminal investigation

" We know that justice comes with the criminal investigation. We as a group are 'Justice for the Marlin dogs' not 'accountability for the Marlin dogs' so we have always put our faith and focus into the criminal investigation,” said Sanders.
