Water continues to rise in Prairie Du Chein, causing Island Closure
PRESS RELEASE – RIVER CONTINUES TO RISE. The latest projections from the National Weather Service have the river reaching a level at or near 20.2 by Monday, July 1, 2024. FERIOLE ISLAND – At the current rise we are now planning the Island will be shut down at 12:00 A.M. Saturday, June 29, to general public motor vehicles. Passes will be available for business owners to allow for them to check on their business and/or city parks. The Island will remain closed until further notice.
Relief efforts are underway in southern Wisconsin after a weekend of tornadoes and heavy rains
Communities across southern Wisconsin are cleaning up after severe storms hit much of the state over the weekend. Janesville faces significant damage from the EF-2 tornado it endured Saturday night. Kevin Lahner, city manager for Janesville, told WPR’s “Wisconsin Today” that at least 338 homes were damaged and about six homes were “completely destroyed.”
