Nichols Christian draws enthusiastic vacation bible school crowd
A large crowd attended the SCUBA Vacation Bible School program at the Nichols Christian Church on Aug. 4. The children sang and danced to songs learned during the week. Through an interactive conversation with Pastor Marcie Heil, the children shared the Bible stories and Bible verses discussed, as well as the joys of “diving into friendship with God.” A delicious brunch was served to all guests following the program.

There is less than one month left for someone to claim a $500,000 Powerball prize that was won with a ticket sold in North Iowa this past spring. The Iowa Lottery is reminding players to double-check their tickets for the half-million dollar winning ticket purchased at Kwik Star at 1502 South Federal Avenue in Mason City in mid-March. Marion branches out with new street tree planting program
MARION, Iowa — The City of Marion and Monarch Research are teaming up to create the next community-wide tree planting program, to add more greenery back into the city. This new Planting Forward Program aims to not only reforest Marion after losing thousands of trees in the 2020 derecho but also to add trees to areas along streets and sidewalks that were bare to begin with.
New Hampton Swimming Pool Forced to Close For Rest of Season
The New Hampton Swimming Pool has been forced to shut down early for the remainder of the season. A New Hampton Swimming Pool Facebook post says the facility had to be closed effective immediately after a pair of glass pool goggles shattered in the pool on Monday (08.120. The notice added, “Because of the glass, we must follow protocol and drain the pool. Unfortunately, it takes a few days to be able to safely drain the pool, clean it, refill, and apply start up chemicals. Due to the timeline, we (Park-Rec Department) had to make the difficult decision to close the pool for the 2024 season. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience.”

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – An invasive species of plant has spread on Clear Lake. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a small area of Eurasian watermilfoil was originally found during fall 2023 east of the McIntosh Beach.
