MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) — A side-by-side poker run hosted by Wertz Warriors will take place Saturday, July 20 to benefit Special Olympics Michigan Area 36.

The event will start and end at Crossroads Bar in Marquette, and make five stops in Gwinn. Registration will be held on the day at 11 a.m., with the run starting at noon.

A dinner will be provided to participants following the run.

Pam Bahram, Area Director of Special Olympics Michigan Area 36, says the organization was “very, very fortunate” this year to receive a grant for new ski equipment from Wertz Warriors, which also sponsors the Special Olympics of Michigan’s annual State Winter Games in Traverse City, in addition to providing grant opportunities for the organization.

Funds raised from this event will go to Wertz Warriors and will “trickle down to our athletes,” says Bahram.

The cost to participate is $40 per poker player and $10 per rider. A $400 prize will be awarded to the winner of the poker run, and the second-place contestant will receive a $50 prize. There will also be raffles.

The event will take place rain or shine.
