MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) — A woman is dead after being pulled from the water at McCarty’s Cove in Marquette early Friday afternoon.

Shortly after noon on Friday, a significant presence of first responders was seen on the beach near E Ohio Street and Lake Shore Boulevard in Marquette.

A release from the Marquette Police Department said lifeguards with the city pulled a 63-year-old woman from shallow water and had began CPR before first responders arrived and continued CPR.

According to police, the woman was unresponsive when lifeguards brought her to shore.

After 1 p.m., life-saving efforts were stopped and the woman was seen being taken away in an ambulance.

Police say the woman is a California resident who has frequently visited the Marquette area.
