Montgomery Co. passes bill to enforce tenant safety regulations after deadly Silver Spring apartment fire
The measure was prompted by the fire at the Arrive Silver Spring apartment complex that took the life of 25-year-old Melanie Diaz last year. “We were working with members of the public and listening to their stories and what they went through during that event, and realized there was so much we could do here at the county (level) to make sure that there was better preparation for emergencies and better information sharing,” said Montgomery County Council Vice President Kate Stewart, who sponsored the legislation.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley on Thursday spoke on a case regarding a man who accused city officers of using excessive force during an arrest. The arrest happened in the 1900 block of East Oliver Street in May, in which body-worn camera video showed police force Jaemaun Joyner to the ground in handcuffs as they were searching for a robbery suspect. Joyner’s attorneys allege excessive force because of the takedown and the way officers pinned him to the sidewalk.

Can the Caitlin Clark effect help other pro sports? Women’s lacrosse hopes so.
Charlotte North can empathize with Caitlin Clark. In many circles, she was regarded — and still is — as a pioneer who could ignite ...

The developer that wants to build a $25 million senior living community in North Roland Park has hit another speed bump. More than a month after the Appellate Court of Maryland determined that Baltimore’s zoning board acted properly when it ruled in 2022 that a Mississippi-based developer may construct a three-story assisted living facility near the intersection of Falls Road and Northern Parkway, neighboring property owners Margaret and Hunter Cochrane have appealed the decision in the Supreme Court of Maryland.
Ravens, Panthers Free Agent Target: “I’m Still A Starter In This League”
Cornerback Stephon Gilmore might just be the best player left on the free agent market, and the two-time All-Pro won’t settle for a deal that doesn’t reflect his value on the football field. At the peak of his powers, the former first-round pick was the best cornerback in the game, helping the Patriots win the Super Bowl in 2018 before winning Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019. While he has slowed down a bit since those days, he remains an effective starter. Playing on a strong Cowboys defense, Gilmore finished the season with a 71.2 PFF grade, the 35th-best mark out of 127 eligible players.
Former Orioles' top prospect on the move ahead of trade deadline
When the Orioles selected prep pitcher Hunter Harvey with the 22nd overall pick in the 2013 draft, they saw the right-hander with a big-league pedigree as a key piece of the future. A late-night deal on the eve of draft day proved that Harvey still has first-round value, if not in the way the Orioles’ envisioned.
