HydroFest crowd put at 12,000
(Marshall County Tourism & Sports estimated the crowd at this year's HydroFest boat races at 12,000 spectators. They put out this story wrapping up the event.) Guntersville Lake continues to generate huge economic impact for the county and North Alabama region each summer with water events scattered throughout June and July. This summer kicked off with a jet ski competition bringing more than 60 competitive racers to the lake. Despite a rainy weekend, the competition was fierce and featured several national and world champions. In the past jet ski racing has been linked to the HydroFest weekend, but this summer the skis took to the water in a separate event that generated $131,000 in economic impact.
Benton man killed in Marshall Co. collision
A Benton man was killed in a head-on collision on U.S. 68 West in Marshall County Friday. According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, it happened near Darnall Road when a vehicle operated by 50-year-old Gedget Quigley of Paducah drifted into the westbound lane while traveling eastbound on U.S. 68.

UDATE: The Marshall County Sheriff's Office says a woman reported missing earlier Saturday has been found safe. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public's help in finding Gabrielle Kyle Purdum. Purdum, a 25-year-old white female, may have a condition that could impair her judgment. She was last spotted on July 12, 2024, around 4:00 p.m., wearing a pink tank top near Seeley Drive in Grant, AL.
