The Marshall softball team was one of the area’s best in 2024. The Cardinals enjoyed several weeks ranked in the Wisconsin Fastpich Softball Association (WFSCA) top-10 for Division 3. They won a share of the Capitol — South conference title and won a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) playoff game, as well.

Following the end of the season, praise continues to rain down for the best and brightest on Marshall’s team. The WFSCA named a pair of Cardinals, sophomore pitcher Kennedy Weisensel and junior catcher Sydney Stuntebeck, as honorable mention all-district selections.

Weisensel’s short high school career has not lacked for high-level accomplishments such as this. This is already a return to the all-district list after earning first team honors as a freshman. She’s also twice been named the Capitol — South conference Pitcher of the Year while picking up a pair of first team all-conference nods.

Weisensel earned this honor by doubling as both a prolific batter and pitcher. In the pitching circle, she dominated the Capitol — South conference, letting in eight runs with six walks and an incredible 44 strikeouts. She got the win in four of her five starts.

In addition to her pitching dominance, Weisensel doubled as Marshall’s leadoff batter. She collected 31 hits on the year, including eight doubles and two homeruns. She knocked in 11 RBIs and tied for the team lead in runs scored with 28 Added in with 12 walks, she finished with a stellar batting average of 0.413 to go along with a 0.600 slugging percentage and a 0.500 on-base percentage.

Make that back-to-back honorable mention all-district honors for Stuntebeck, who’s been a starter for Marshall since she was a freshman. She’s also picked up two first team and one second team all-conference selections from the Capitol — South in her time as a Cardinal.

Stuntebeck wielded the most dangerous bat in the lineup, good for an impressive 0.714 slugging percentage to go along with a 0.400 batting average and a 0.477 on-base percentage. Stuntebeck led the team in homeruns with four and tied for the most in doubles (eight), runs scored (28) and RBIs (16). Additionally, she connected on one triple during the season and drew 10 walks.

She also brings a high level of experience and leadership to the defense as the team’s starting catcher for the last three seasons. The pitcher-catcher relationship with Weisensel continues to grow and will be one to watch next season.
