Overland Park to add more EV chargers at these 5 public facilities
Overland Park plans to use federal funds to help cover the cost of adding more electric vehicle charging stations at more public facilities. On Wednesday, the Overland Park City Council’s Public Works Committee voted 6-0 to recommend approval of an agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation to purchase the EV charging equipment for nearly $300,000.
Park University Appoints Molly Pierson as Dean of Students
As the dean of students, Pierson will collaborate with Park students, faculty and staff to ensure that student experiences align with the University’s vision, mission, core values and strategic plan priorities. She will work with teams across the University to positively impact the student experience and advance successful outcomes for Park students. Pierson will oversee residence life, student leadership and engagement, counseling, student conduct, crises and advocacy, new student and parent programs, and the Park Student Government Association. She will also advocate for initiatives related to student retention and co-curricular learning assessment. In addition Pierson will serve as the chief judicial officer for Park University students nationwide and serve as the deputy Title IX coordinator for students.

Kansas City’s Language Access Office Continues as Work in Progress
Progress remains stagnant months after the Kansas City Council passed Ordiance 240165 in February declaring the creation of the Office of Language Access. The office — which would provide translation and interpretation services for those seeking city wide services or documents — is a result of a resolution passed by Mayor Pro Tempore and 5th District Councilwoman Ryana Parks-Shaw during summer 2023. This motion directed the City Manager to create a language access program. This resolution was followed by a community engagement campaign in fall 2023 — led by local organizations KC Tenants and Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR) — to gather data and provide guidance on this office development.
