Zedell gets 4 years for murder of Louis Riggs

CLARK COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Martinsville man will spend time behind bars after being sentenced for the murder of Louis Riggs.

Donmick Zedell appeared in Clark County Court for a sentencing hearing on Wednesday. The hearing follows Zedell being found guilty by a jury of 2nd degree murder in may of this year in relation to the stabbing death of Riggs in 2023 .

Police said the incident occurred on July 29, 2023 when officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of S. 4th Street in Marshall for a reported fight in progress. They reportedly found an unconscious Riggs at that location and he would die awaiting transportation to a medical facility.

Wednesday, a judge handed down a 4 year prison sentence with credit for 354 days time-served. Once released Zedell must submit to two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
