19-year-old killed in Martinsville shooting on Rivermont Heights

MARTINSVILLE, Va. ( WFXR ) — The Martinsville Police Department reports a 19-year-old was killed after a shooting in Rivermont Heights early morning Sunday, July 7.

According to the police department, officers were dispatched at 2:36 a.m. to the 1400 block of Rivermont Heights in reference to a shooting. Officers arrived on the scene and found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds.

They were taken to Martinsville SOVAH Hospital where police say one victim, identified as 19-year-old Iviyan Dandridge of Martinsville, was pronounced dead.

The other victim received treatment and was later released.

Police report they believe that there had been a large gathering at a residence on Rivermont Heights when a fight broke out, which led to the shooting.

Investigators with the Martinsville Police Department and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office are processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.
