Ashanti Douglas has maintained a composed public image despite the shocking news of her fiancé Nelly’s arrest on drug possession charges.

The expectant mother took to social media yesterday to share a series of radiant photos from her mother’s birthday celebration, seemingly ignoring the gravity of the situation involving her partner.

Nelly was reportedly arrested in the early hours of the morning after police allegedly discovered illegal drugs in his car.

The 49-year-old rapper was arrested early Wednesday at a casino in the St. Louis area, where an officer discovered four illegal ecstasy pills on him, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

According to a brief online report from the patrol, Nelly was arrested around 4:45 a.m. and later released by police in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Online Missouri court records also revealed that Nelly, born Cornell Haynes II, was cited in Maryland Heights in June 2018 for driving without proper insurance. In December 2023, a judge issued a warrant, which has remained outstanding.

The Hollywood Casino and Hotel is located in the St. Louis suburb. Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, said in a statement Wednesday evening that the rapper, who grew up in the area, frequents it.

Nelly’s lawyer also claimed that an “overzealous” officer targeted him and conducted an improper search. Rosenblum stated that Nelly had won several casino jackpots, and when he attempted to collect them, the officer who would have overseen the transaction “needlessly” searched for warrants.

Nelly’s attorney referred to what the officer discovered as “alleged ‘ecstasy'” and claimed the officer lacked probable cause to search him. According to Rosenblum, Nelly was not notified of the warrant and was unaware of it.
