(FOX40.COM) — An employee of the Yuba County Jail in Northern California was arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the jail.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Dept. said the civilian employee, who is 33, was detained on Wednesday after being interviewed by investigators and is charged with bringing narcotics into a correctional facility.

The clerk who was arrested has been employed at the jail since January 2022 and was assigned as a visiting clerk, the agency said.

The jail facility is located in Marysville, about 45 miles north of Sacramento.

“I am angry and saddened to learn of these events,” said Sheriff Wendell Anderson in a statement.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff said there is a potential for more arrests, referencing that the people who work in the jail and the inmates were “put into harm’s way due to the actions of a few individuals.”

“I am confident the investigators will find all responsible parties, and they will be held accountable for their actions,” the sheriff’s statement continued.
