St. Clair County's new downriver park to host aquatic plant program July 10
At St. Clair County’s newest county park, those interested in learning more about what aquatic plants will get their chance early next month. According to a news release from the county’s parks and recreation commission, Erica Clites, a Michigan Sea Grant extension educator, will lead a discussion on what kinds of plants grow underwater, their habitats and ecology at an event at North Channel County Park.

Marine City Commission looks to amend charter
Marine City commissioners approved five resolutions regarding amendments of five different sections of the city charter at its June 20 meeting. City Attorney Robert Davis said passing the resolutions is one step toward getting the amendments on the ballot, and the commission will still have town hall meetings and other meetings to discuss the language.
Marine City Commission updates historic district ordinance
The Marine City Commission recently approved an amendment to the historic district ordinance and a schedule change for its July meetings. The historical commission requested to amend Ordinance No. 155.098 relating to the historic district study committee and the study committee report by removing the line contained in the ordinance that reads “and determine the interest of each property owned in participating in such a district” in section 1-B.
Richmond school board appoints new member
Traci Bartell was recently selected by the Richmond Community Schools Board of Education to fill a board vacancy. Bartell was chosen by the board in a 4-2 vote, and was sworn in during the board’s June 24 meeting. Trustee Danielle Sutton said that candidates were very qualified, but as the position is temporary, she believed there would not be as much of a learning curve for Bartell.
