    ISP Reports Two Fatality Accidents on Wednesday: Iowa Traffic Fatalities Reach 160 To-Date

    (State News) The Iowa State Patrol reported two fatalities on Wednesday. One person died in a two-vehicle crash in Jasper County, and a pedestrian died in a separate accident in Cerro Gordo County.

    According to the Iowa State Patrol, a Des Moines native died, and a Monroe native suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash near Newton. The incident occurred on County Highway S-74 South, prompting a response from multiple emergency services. Authorities reported that one vehicle crossed the oncoming lane, leading to the collision with the other vehicle. The Iowa State Patrol is assisting in the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.

    The State Police say a southbound 2004 GMC Envoy traveling on Plymouth Road in Mason City struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to a Mercy One Hospital, where they died from their injuries. The driver of the SUV driver is identified as a 17-year-old female.

    Wednesday, July 24, the Iowa Department of Transportation Traffic Fatality Count reached 160. This compares to 198 fatalities at this same time one year ago, 172 in 2022, and 166 in 2021.
