Massachusetts RMV's car inspections coming back days after outage

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles can finally run car inspections for the first time since Friday's worldwide tech outage.

Why it matters: The outage and subsequent delays threw motorists trying to renew inspection stickers in limbo.

Catch up quick: The RMV canceled motor vehicle inspections for several days starting Friday, due to an outage that also knocked down systems at Massachusetts General Hospital and several airlines.

    • The RMV could still perform motorcycle inspections, the agency tweeted .
    • Suspension hearings proceeded over the phone, WBUR reported.

The latest: The RMV will resume inspections Wednesday, the state Department of Transportation said.

    • Most motor vehicle inspection stations were operable as of Tuesday afternoon.

Zoom in: The RMV will extend re-inspection times for those whose re-inspection date expires between Friday and July 31 until Aug. 10.

    • That also applies to drivers seeking to retest after failed inspections before Friday.
