    One person dead after Massena fire; man facing arson charges

    MASSENA, N.Y. (WWTI) – One person is dead and another is facing arson charges after a Wednesday fire in Massena.

    The Massena Fire Department responded to a call around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at 196 Center Street.

    Jefferson County dealing with disruptions after global internet outage

    Massena Village Police arrested 33-year-old Darren Kelly and charged him with second-degree arson in a Friday morning press release. He is currently being held in the St. Lawrence County Jail without bail. Further charges are pending according to Massena Police.

    Fire crews said that they were able to contain the blaze to the apartment of origin and the structure only got minimal smoke damage.

    The American Red Cross is lending assistance to two adults and four young children with ages ranging from one to seven years old.

    The Massena Fire Department received assistance by the Massena Village Police, Massena Rescue, St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services, New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control, and New York State Police. The fire scene was cleared around 1 a.m. Thursday morning.
