Pet show in Bowling Green is the cat's meow
BOWING GREEN — The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department will hold its 63rd annual pet show on the Needle Hall stage at City Park, 520 Conneaut Ave., at 7 p.m. July 10. Pet enthusiasts are invited to participate and showcase their animals. Participants are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes early. Categories for judging include best groomed, most unusual, shaggiest, best dressed pet, biggest rodent, largest and smallest dog, slimiest reptile, and bird that tweets/talks the loudest. The event will be postponed to July 17 if it rains. For more information, call 419-354-6223.

Downtown crowd flocks to Rib, White, and Blue’s first day
The air smelled of smoke and barbecued meats at the opening of the annual Rib, White, and Blue Festival, which kicked off in downtown Akron today. The sky was cloudy, but the rain held off until late afternoon, making for a busy Wednesday lunch crowd at the festival. Many of the rib vendors had lines several people deep, and more attendees sat at tables spread along South Main Street, eating ribs, pulled pork, brisket and a smorgasbord of side dishes, including macaroni and cheese, collard greens and roasted corn on the cob.
