What's new at the Mu? Massillon artist featured in new show

The Massillon Museum’s Studio M will exhibit “On Its Head,” paintings by Emily Bartolone, from July 27 through Sept. 8. Her paintings merge figuration with geometric abstraction. A free, public reception for the artist will be 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 17.

Highlights

A Massillon-based artist, Bartolone explores, through her artwork, the intersection of shape and color and how those elements can express human experiences and relationships encountered in daily life.

A “MassMusings” podcast interview with the artist will be posted at noon Aug. 20 on the MassMu website and Spotify.

Massillon Museum members can apply to be considered for an exhibition of their artwork in the Studio M gallery, located on the second floor of the museum. Students or recent graduates pursuing bachelor’s degrees or master’s degrees in studio art at a Northeastern Ohio university may apply for a student show.

Established artists who reside east of the Mississippi River may submit proposal applications for one of five professional artist exhibitions presented each year. The current call for exhibition proposals is open until July 27.

Visitors can also view the dazzling “Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion and Fortune 1870–1900” in the main gallery. Other exhibits includeInnovators of Massillon; the Immel Circus; the local history and fine and decorative arts galleries; and the Paul Brown/Massillon Tiger Football History Timeline. A 1916 Massillon-manufactured Russell steam engine is displayed in the garden.
