Farmville to host first Rub'n Shoulders barbecue festival and cook-off

Ladder truck helps place fledging bird back in nest
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Three different city departments helped a fledging bird find its way back into its nest this morning. It started with a Greenville city code enforcement officer thinking there was a bird in their car. The first call went to Animal Protective Services who found the young bird under the hood of the city vehicle.

Office of Recovery and Resiliency (NCORR) is reporting that it has spent $51.2 million to build 752 new low-income rental units in the aftermath of hurricanes Matthew and Florence, as well as areas damaged by Tropical Storm Fred. Another 1,430 such rental units are planned to increase the availability of safe, affordable housing in areas heavily impacted by the storms, the agency said in a news release.

NCDHHS Celebrates Two Years of 9-8-8
The NC Department of Health and Human Services this week celebrates the second anniversary of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. In the past two years, 988 crisis counselors in North Carolina have responded to nearly 190,000 calls, texts and chats, providing critical access to mental health and substance use crisis support. In its second year of service, the number of North Carolinians contacting 988 each month has nearly doubled.
