American Legion Post 219's shoe drive aims to support veterans and global entrepreneurs
A shoe drive fundraiser is happening in Kinston with the hopes of raising money to help our veterans in need. The American Legion Harris-Croom Post 219 has announced it will be having a shoe drive fundraiser from now until Monday, September 30 to raise funds to provide assistance for veterans in need. The funds will also go to provide scholarships to college for high school seniors. The Legion is asking for gently worn, used and new shoes to be donated to theKinston Community Center, 2602 W. Vernon Ave, Kinston, NC 28504 or the Vet Center, 2315 Dickinson Ave. Suite 300, Greenville NC 27834.

Pitt County Confederate monument lawsuit dismissed
A lawsuit that claimed Pitt County acted improperly when they removed a Confederate memorial statue in 2020 will be dismissed. A hearing was held last week, and the county attorney argued that the person that filed the suit connected to the removal of the Pitt County Confederate Soldier's Memorial statue from the front of the courthouse in Greenville didn’t have legal standing to sue the county.

Sheriff's Office begins moving into new facility
Administrative and sworn staff for the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office have a new home that leaders said will provide a consolidated space to help meet the needs of a growing community and free up existing space for other county offices.
