Ole Miss lands four-star safety over Mississippi State
It was an all-Mississippi recruiting race for four-star safety Cortez Thomas. It made sense, too. Thomas, who goes to Holmes County High School, hails from Lexington, Mississippi, and he clearly wanted to stay in-state to play college ball.Despite 13 other offers, Ole Miss and Mississippi State were his top two schools. The Bulldogs had an early edge for Thomas, admittedly, but there was a shakeup in Starkville that saw head coach Zach Arnett fired just 10 games into his first season. Jeff Lebby, former Oklahoma offensive coordinator, took over as new head coach, but that shakeup ultimately gave an edge to Lane...

MSU signee Sanders working back from injury
It might have been a season of ups and downs for Gatlin Sanders this year, but he counted it a successful year. Playing for former Mississippi State catcher Wes Thigpen at Jones College, Sanders dealt with a shoulder injury most of the season and battled against it all year. After diving on the shoulder early in the year, Sanders banged up that shoulder and it kept him from producing the numbers he wanted, but he powered through it.
2024 Early Outlook For SEC Football Teams: Mississippi State
You can say this about Zach Arnett's tenure as head football coach at Mississippi State. It was longer than that of Mike Price at Alabama. Things happen, sometimes very bad things, and such was the case in Starkville when Mike Leach died suddenly following the 2022 regular season. He was replaced by his defensive coordinator, Arnett, but after Mississippi State went 5-7, 1-7 in the Southeastern Conference, in 2023, the change was made. That change was to bring in an offensive man, and the Bulldogs got one of the nation's most accomplished offensive coordinators in Jeff Lebby. Lebby was brought in from Oklahoma, where his offense led the Big 12 in scoring at 41.7 ppg. (Earlier he had been OC at Ole Miss.)
Counting down to Mississippi State 2024 Kickoff: 57 Days
57 as in… the 57% passing of Dave Marler in the 1978 Mississippi State season. Alright, so he absolute percentage was 56.79, but for our purposes rounding-up is close enough. At the time it was the third-best season rate ever by a Bulldog quarterback, behind only the immortal Jackie Parker in 1953 and I-didn't-know-that Ashby Cook in 1964.
Hoop Vision reschedules combine for August
Coach Kevin Washington of Hoop Vision believes the Mississippi Phenom Boys and Girls Basketball Combine is worth the wait. Originally scheduled for June, the combine was delayed until August to give potential athletes a better chance to participate. “There is just so much that these kids can do,” Washington said....
Former UK pitcher Travis Smith to transfer to Mississippi State
It has been an interesting two years for former Kentucky pitcher Travis Smith. The Walton-Verona High School (KY) product dreamed of wearing the Wildcat uniform for much of his life. The hard throwing right hander had the chance to do that in 2022, 2023, and 2024. His first season in Lexington served as a redshirt year as he recovered from surgery.

The NCAA transfer portal window for college baseball is officially closed. As the clock struck midnight on July 2nd, the opportunity to transfer and have immediate eligibility ended. Fortenberry brings momentum to Bulldogs
Over the last seven months, junior college left-handed pitcher Robert Fortenberry has seen his entire life change. The Frisco, Texas, pitcher finished up a solid freshman season at Weatherford College (Texas) uncommitted. Before his sophomore season Fortenberry committed to Mississippi State. After that, he put together a season that landed him the Division I NJCAA Pitcher of the Year honor nationally.
BONEYARD: State laying foundation for 2026 football recruiting class
Entering the month of June, Mississippi State had just three verbal commitments towards the 2025 class. When the fireworks went skyward into the 4th of July night sky, State held 17 verbals for that class and four more for the next one. Hampton, Georgia product Michael Johnson made the call Thursday afternoon to bring the 2026 class to a quartet of talented commitments. The Dutchtown High School star holds a dozen or so offers and decided it was time he made the call.
