KPD: 2 detained after robbing a Red Roof Inn in North Knoxville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Two people are facing charges after robbing a Red Roof Inn on Central Avenue Pike Monday morning, according to the Knoxville Police Department. Officers from the Community Engagement Response Team located and stopped the car connected to the robbery that afternoon. The driver, Matthew Bryson, and the passenger, Mackenzie Weaver were stopped on the 3900 block of Chapman Highway, KPD said.

Travis Jolly from Knoxville, Tennessee, was the first to reach the finish line at the Alabama border. As we learned in a post-race interview, this was 29-year-old Travis’ first time racing in this event.
ACE Becomes Amadeus Concert Ensemble and Announces 2024-25 Concerts
To more accurately reflect its evolution, scale, and importance, the Knoxville performance entity previously known as the Amadeus Chamber Ensemble has undergone a name change to become the Amadeus Concert Ensemble. Its thoughtfully presented composer-themed concerts employing notable soloists appearing with orchestra and chorus will continue as before, filling an important niche in Knoxville’s classical music scene. As before, the free performances of important works from music history are a part of the Cathedral Concert Series at the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on Northshore Drive.

BOE sells former Lakeview School property for $25K
The Hawkins County Board of Education voted earlier this month to sell the former Lakeview School adjacent property for $25,000. The vacant 2.5-acre property sits at the corner of Old Highway 11-W and Hagood Circle west of Rogersville, and hasn’t been used as a school for many years. Director of Schools Matt Hixson told the BOE at its Aug. 8 meeting that the property received only one bid of $25,000, from Bill Stapleton, after it was advertised in the newspaper for 30 days. Hixson noted that Stapleton had expressed interest in purchasing the property for $25,000 before it was advertised in the newspaper. The action required two votes. The property was first declared as surplus by the board, and then the BOE voted to accept the $25,000 bid.
