Liberty-Benton won an outright Blanchard Valley Conference title last season with an undefeated conference record and the Eagles are expected to challenge to repeat this season. Here is a look at the five area Blanchard Valley Conference teams: LIBERTY-BENTON
High school football: Experienced lines a strength for Leipsic
Aug. 21—LEIPSIC — Maybe the most notable area of strength for Leipsic this season is having experienced players at almost every position on its offensive line. That experience runs so deep that when the three leading ball carriers from last season's team (8-3 overall, 5-2 Northwest Conference) graduated, coach Joe Kirkendall moved honorable mention All-Ohio offensive tackle Quinn Westhoven to ...
High school football: Ottawa-Glandorf looks to compete in WBL
OTTAWA – Longtime Ottawa-Glandorf football head coach Ken Schriner wants his team to run the football as much as possible. Last season, Ottawa-Glandorf struggled at that, which resulted in a 1-9 overall record, and a mark of 1-8 in the Western Buckeye League. “If you look at the plays...
Findlay QB Montgomery ready for last crack at Central Catholic
FINDLAY – As the most heavily recruited high school quarterback in northwest Ohio history gets ready to embark on his final prep season with the Findlay Trojans, Georgia-bound senior Ryan Montgomery has a few boxes left to check before joining the powerhouse Bulldogs next year. ■ Winning another Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division title – this one an outright crown – is at the top of his list. ■ Making a deeper run in the Division I playoffs is also something not too far-fetched for Findlay, which lost in the opening round a year ago. ■ Defeating perennial state power Central Catholic for the first time in his career.

After back-to-back 5-5 seasons in 2021 and 2022, last year's 12-2 team might've been a surprise. With 20 returning letterwinners and nine returning starters, people know what the Pirates are capable of doing. "Last year, we'd come out, we're the underdogs," said Worcester, a ...

Girls soccer: O-G pulls away from Findlay
Aug. 21—GLANDORF — After nine first-half corner kicks, four shots on goal and just one goal by Ottawa-Glandorf in the first half of Wednesday's nonleague girls soccer match with visiting Findlay, it seemed inevitable the Titans would eventually break the match wide open. In the second half, it happened. O-G booted six shots on goal and found the back of the net three times, en route to a 4-0 ...

Former Start coach Lewis joins BCSN's ‘GameDay Tailgate’ hosting crew
Two years away from coaching, former Bowling Green State University football player and Start head coach Godfrey Lewis has found another avenue in staying connected to the game. Lewis will shift from his color analyst role on BCSN broadcasts on area prep football games last year. He will join program director/anchor Justin Feldkamp and former Perrysburg head football coach Matt Kregel to host the network's GameDay Tailgate pregame show each Friday evening throughout the 2024 season. “I always had interest in being a color analyst and analyzing the game,” Lewis said of his first television work last year. “I was a fan of BCSN, and the overall coverage of the sport. “Analyzing the way the game is played, it was very similar to the preparation of coaching. You're looking at different teams, looking at trends throughout the season, and looking at which teams progress and overcome adversity. All of that stuff was interesting to me. It's fun, and something I do naturally.”

Rico Was Right: Little League Should Be Embarrassed That They Don't Pay Their Umpires
Rico Bosco has made a lot of crazy takes in his day. He's had a lot of crazy takes revolving around the Little League World Series in particular. But I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge what I believe to be Rico Bosco most correct, most justified take of all-time. Which is that ESPN and the crooks of the Little League Baseball organization are doing the kids a grave injustice, and completely spitting in the face of baseball and all things that are holy by using volunteer umpires to call the the Little League World Series.
