Severe storms bring winds, damage to Wichita area
A line of severe thunderstorms moved across south central Kansas late Tuesday afternoon, bringing wind gusts of 65 miles an hour, bringing down trees and power lines. The storms developed in Kingman and Harper counties and then moved east into Reno, Harvey, Sedgwick, Sumner, Butler and Cowley counties. Wind gusts of 60 to 65 mph were reported near Eisenhower National Airport, and a gust of 67 mph was reported near Viola.

KDOT receives $1.6 million grant for Canal Route modernization study
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that a $1.6 million grant has been awarded to KDOT for a study on modernizing the Canal Route. The Canal Route on I-135 through the center of Wichita includes 53 bridges, two of which are the largest in Kansas, two interchanges and four pedestrian bridges. It connects to I-35 and the I-235 bypass and carries more than 87,000 vehicles daily. The study will complete a Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study to develop options for replacing infrastructure along the route’s 5.5-mile segment of I-135.
