Hafertepe Jr. Dominates 81 Speedway for Third-Straight Victory
WICHITA, KS (July 20, 2024) – Sam Hafertepe Jr.’s first three wins of the season on the American Sprint Car Series National Tour came consecutively in June, and history repeated itself Saturday night. The five-time Series champion led every lap at 81 Speedway en route to his third-straight Feature win and sixth of the season.
AfterShocks & Mass Street Advance in TBT; Purple Reign Falls
The 2024 edition of The Basketball Tournament opened play in the Wichita Regional Saturday at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita with two of the three home favorites advancing. In the opening game of the day, the top-seeded AfterShocks team of Wichita State alumni used a monster first quarter to advance past No. 8 seed Midtown Prestige 86-71. The AfterShocks ended the first period up 19-4 and never looked back. The teams played the last three periods even but the 15-point deficit was too much for the Prestige to overcome. Markis McDuffie led the way with 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting while grabbing six rebounds for the ‘Shocks.

WICHITA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Basketball Tournament began for Purple Reign in Wichita, but Team Colorado had other plans, beating KSU’s alumni team 71-67. Purple Reign led 18-16 after the first quarter, but then trailed 34-29 at the break. KSU outscored Team Colorado by five in the third to tie the game but former NBA player Andre Roberson made the game winning shot to end Purple Reign’s run.

Over 1 million acres have been burned by wildfires so far this year, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. There are currently 60 large fires active nationwide, with 10 new fires in the last few days.
