Large cicada killer wasps in Barton Co. not a threat to humans
No, those are not the infamous "murder hornets" flying around Barton County. While the historic outbreak of two broods of cicadas occurred earlier this year in the eastern United States, dry conditions in Kansas may be contributing to a higher number of large cicada killer wasps. Alicia Boor, agriculture and natural resources agent in the Cottonwood District for K-State Research and Extension, said while intimidating, the cicada killers are mostly harmless.

Judge grants final approval of settlement in Wichita gang list lawsuit
WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – A federal judge has approved a proposed settlement resolving a class action lawsuit against the Wichita Police Department for its gang list. The federal lawsuit was filed in 2021 by Progeny, a local juvenile justice group. According to the lawsuit, WPD's gang list includes 5,200 people, 1,700 active members, 3,000 inactive, and 221 gang associates. The suit claimed police target people on the list with frequent stops and searches over minor traffic violations. It also says there's a minimum bail of $50,000 if charged with a violent crime.
