McCOOK LAKE (KELO) — U.S. Senator Mike Rounds surveyed flood damage in southeastern South Dakota Thursday.

Rounds met with local emergency management, law enforcement and residents of McCook Lake to get a handle on the scope of damage.

    Flooding causes uptick in renting

“A lot of these homes… they’re probably not going to be livable again. And, at the same time, some of them, perhaps, can be repairable. A lot of damage to roads, bridges, the electrical systems are still out, the gas is still out, utilities need to be repaired, so they’ve got a huge amount of work here to do over the summer months,” said Rounds

Rounds says the damage reminds him of the Missouri River flooding that forced him out of his home back in 2011.
