Search for missing person closes Rock Cut State Park, evacuating visitors
WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - The search for a missing 31-year-old man sent hikers and paddlers home early on Saturday afternoon at Rock Cut State Park. Illinois Conservation Police, within the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, (ICP) Sergeant Audrey Hoftender says the active investigation began in the early hours of July 27. Local and state authorities soon arrived – with a K9 unit searching for the person on land.
Miller Found Dead Following Amherst Standoff
AMHERST, WI (WSAU) — The subject of a lengthy standoff that led to a shelter-in-place order in Amherst has been found dead. Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas says 32-year-old Jeffery Miller was deceased inside the Amherst home where he had been barricaded for nearly 24 hours. Miller had been wanted on several outstanding warrants.
Wisconsin women’s basketball adds Serbian wing
Wisconsin’s women’s basketball program announced the addition of Serbian wing Jovana Spasovski to its 2024-25 roster on Friday. Spasovski will become the second international player on the Badgers’ roster this fall, joining Spanish guard Alba Martìn Mesa. Both will suit up in Madison this winter as first-time Badgers. A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Spasovski enters the American basketball scene with a boatload of experience. As a member of basketball club Akson Ilirija, Spasovski registered 9.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per appearance across 23 games during the 2023-24 season. Spasovski also helped guide the Serbian National Team to a fourth place finish at the at the 2023 FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship in Lithuania.
