    Local commissioners comment on recent Benwood & McMechen paid EMS service during meeting

    MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. ( WTRF ) – Marshall County Commissioners gathered for their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday morning with several notions on their agenda.

    Commissioners approved the new hire for the county clerk’s office and a new hire of a temporary part time employee for the 911 Dispatch Center.

    City Administrator Betsy Frohnapfel gave an update on the courthouse and health department projects, which are both moving along nicely.

    Frohnapfel said they are postponing the landscaping portion of the courthouse project until September. “Anything we plant now will die since it is so hot outside,” Frohnapfel said.

    Commissioners also addressed the recent announcement of Benwood and McMechen having a paid EMS Service.

    Last week, officials in Benwood and McMechen announced their new paid EMS service, which the commission approved a notion to provide $65,000 in funding on April 9 to help make possible.

    Marshall County Commissioners commented, “It came as a surprise last week when an announcement was made and we were not included. We voted on April 9 before Benwood City Council voted to approve their participation in the program.”

    Marshall County Commissioners said this paid EMS service is wonderful for both communities.
