Last Days Before the Invasion Begins
In late June friends of mine wondered why they hadn’t seen any spotted lanternflies this year. Are the invasive bugs gone? Not at all! The nymphs are present but they can’t fly yet. Last weekend I saw the first warning that we’re in the last days — a week, maybe two — before the spotted lanternfly invasion begins. I saw a red nymph.
About 100,000 blue catfish stocked in Ohio River for future anglers to catch
Anglers in the Pittsburgh area may be catching 50-to 60-pound blue catfish several years from now as part of an ongoing reintroduction effort of this native species of fish. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is in its second year of stocking blue catfish in the Ohio River in the Point State Park area of Pittsburgh and Sewickley.

Pieces of Kennywood's Thunderbolt mural hit the auction block
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Want to own a piece of Kennywood history? Parts of the iconic Thunderbolt mural are hitting the auction block.To celebrate the wooden roller coaster's 100th birthday, the park is creating a new mural. Six pieces of the old one are now available at an online auction running through Sunday, July 7. Proceeds of the auction will go to the nonprofit 412 Food Rescue, which prevents extra food from going to waste by giving it to other nonprofit partners that serve those in need.According to the auction site, the pieces are valued between $1,500 and $2,000. TSA Making Changes As Airport Traffic Increases
Those who are getting ready to fly should be ready for changes that are coming to the Pittsburgh International Airport starting next week. As summer travel continues to ramp up, starting Monday July 8th the Pittsburgh International Airport will be moving all TSA Precheck passengers to the TSA alternate line Monday through Friday from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m.

It was hard to beat the Fourth of July in 1997. I worked on Mount Washington, for the venerable radio giant B94, where I was music director. Our building, underneath a massive radio tower on the Duquesne Incline side of the mountain, used to house our air studios, our administrative offices and our sales floor. But a few years prior, everyone moved out for new offices in Foster Plaza, leaving just me and the on-air staff of three radio stations (by then including 100.7 and Y108).
