It has been as hot as 120 degrees F in Mecca; as many as two million pilgrims come to Saudi Arabian city for the annual hajj, and at least 1,2000 have died. That number is too low. There will never be an accurate number due to crowds of this large and limited medical facilities. Temperatures have stayed high, so the deaths are not over.

Mexico Deaths –115 Is Too Low

The ability to count deaths is similar to that of heat waves in Mexico and India. There is no data-gathering infrastructure, and death certificates are often inaccurate when they are given.

In Mexico, for example, one source said 330 people died of the heat. With temperates well above 100 degrees in areas where air conditioning is not available for much of the population, this count is low. ,

    India Numbers Wrong

The government of India has reported 110 deaths from the heat wave. Temperatures of 115 degrees have plagued much of the country for almost two weeks. Again, the figure needs to be higher if it is to be accurate.

What is accurate is that these incidents will grow. Too much of the world’s population cannot access air conditioning or other cooling means. The days with temperatures over 100 degrees will only rise in these areas. It is another climate crisis for which there may be no solution.
