Conservative Columnist Argues Trump Might Kick Vance Off the Ticket: ‘Trump is Losing This Race — And He Knows It’

Ben Domenech , the editor-at-large of The Spectator World and Fox News contributor, believes Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump may kick his running mate, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), off the ticket.

In a column for The Spectator , Domenech argued that “there is a non-zero possibility that Donald Trump could decide to move on from J.D. Vance in the aftermath of the upcoming Democratic National Convention” because “Vance has been getting beat up without showing a strong capability to fight back.”

He also submitted that “the world where Vance made sense as a choice disappeared the minute Joe Biden was knifed by his fellow Democrats in favor of Harris,” as well as that “Trump is losing this race” and “knows it.”

“The idea may seem far-fetched, but in a cycle as crazy as 2024, another twist can’t be ruled out before November. And Trump may be the only candidate in modern history who would make such a surprising move, intent on resetting the storyline of the cycle once again,” wrote Domenech. “The political world changed the day Joe Biden stepped aside. Trump may need to change it again to get his momentum back.”

Vance has struggled to launch since being named as Trump’s running mate last month, as various clips of his controversial past commentary — especially about “cat ladies” without children — have been resurfaced and pilloried.

In a segment on CNN last month, Harry Enten said that Vance was “the first guy after, immediately following a convention, a VP pick, who actually had a net negative favorable rating that is underwater” and called Vance “the worst vice presidential pick of my lifetime.”

“I don’t think Vance is gonna get replaced, but that’s what we’re talking about. In no planet did I ever think we’d be talking about VP this late into the cycle after he was picked like 10 days ago,” he added.
