President Joe Biden opened up about aging in his first TV interview since dropping out of the presidential race. The president admitted it’s difficult to say how old he is — 81 — out loud.

“I can’t even say how old I am. It’s hard for me to get out of my mouth,” Biden told CBS News chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa in an interview that will air in full on Sunday on CBS Sunday Morning.

Biden said he thought of himself as a “transition president” and stepping aside was in the interest of beating Donald Trump, something he emphasized is the top priority.

“Although it was a great honor being president, I think I have an obligation to the country to do the most important thing you could do and that is we must, we must, we must defeat Trump,” he said.

Biden dropped out of the race amid concerns from some within his own party about his stamina and age. The president quickly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

The interview between Costa and Biden occurred at the White House. Elsewhere during the conversation, Biden said he is not confident there will be a peaceful transfer of power if Trump loses in November.

“If Trump loses, I’m not confident at all. He means what he says. We don’t take him seriously. He means it, all the stuff about, ‘If we lose, there’ll be a bloodbath, it’ll have to be a stolen election,'” he said.
