Karl Rove Showers ‘Star of the Show’ Michelle Obama and ‘Excellent’ Doug Emhoff With Praise for DNC Speeches

Karl Rove joined the chorus of voices impressed by former First Lady Michelle Obama for her performance at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday while also praising Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff for humanizing Vice President Kamala Harris in an appearance on Fox Business Network Wednesday.

After playing a clip from Obama’s speech, host Stuart Varney noted that it was “very well-received” before turning to Rove and asking if it was also “very effective.”

“Oh, absolutely — she was the star of the evening, outshone her husband,” replied the former advisor to George W. Bush . “In fact, I think Doug Emhoff outshone her husband, I thought Doug Emhoff also did an excellent job. Remember, most people don’t know a lot about the vice president of THE United States. That’s just the nature of the thing, And so being introduced, you know, here’s her husband and tells the funny story about their first date, and tells about the blended family. I mean, that that humanized her.”

“And I thought Michelle Obama started the evening with a bang,” continued Rove. “And her husband, you know, spoke too long and later, but he was still effective. But they had a good night last night.”

Rove was not the only Fox personality to praise Obama and Emhoff for their speeches in Chicago. On Tuesday night , Brit Hume called the latter “excellent, charming,” and “affecting” while declaring that Obama delivered “the speech of the night.”

“I did think that the Emhoff speech was very special because every woman would imagine if their husband could give a speech about them like that, it would be very moving,” agreed Dana Perino . “And you have another example of Michelle Obama and Barack Obama , great partnership, and for this crowd and this room, it was a beautiful speech, and again, the oratory skills are incredible.”
