Eagles Star Slams NFL for Putting Game in Brazil, Cites ‘Crazy’ Crime Rate: ‘I Told My Family: Do Not Come Down There’

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay made is clear he’s not looking forward to the team’s season opener in Brazil this week.

The Eagles will take on the Green Bay Packers on Friday in the league’s first-ever game in Sao Paulo, Brazil. On a recent episode of Slay’s podcast Big Play Slay, the 33-year-old opened up about the compromises the players will have to make while in the city.

“Week 1, I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait,” Slay said, “but man, I do not wanna go to Brazil. You wanna know why? I’m here to tell you why. They already told us not to leave the hotel. They told us we can’t do too much going on because crime rate is crazy… I’m like, ‘NFL, why would y’all wanna send us somewhere where the crime rate is this high. And we’re out the country, so the first thing people are thinking is something terrible can possibly happen. I told my family, ‘Do not come down there,’ because I’m not gonna be anywhere to be found, really. I’m gonna be in the hotel chilling, minding my business, playing my game, after a long, nine-and-a-half-hour flight.

“I don’t have no intentions on doing nothing. I’m gonna eat hotel food… They said it’s gonna be pretty crazy down there. The police said they’re gonna try to be the best they can possibly be, with the top flight security in the world… so we’re hopeful of that.”
