Ohio Senator and Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance is standing by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson amid widespread outrage over a recent interview in which Carlson and his guest, Darryl Cooper, whitewashed the actions of Adolf Hitler as well as the Holocaust.

In the interview , Carlson said he was “highly distressed by the uses to which the myths about World War Two have been put in the context of modern foreign policy — particularly the war in Ukraine.”

“You know, Churchill’s the good guy, Neville Chamberlain’s the bad guy. You know, it’s just, it’s too pat, it’s too, obviously, quite banal. But it also has justified, like, the killing of millions of people since the end of the Second World War. And so I do think it’s fair to ask like ‘What really was going on?’ So, for example, I’m American, I’m not English, so I don’t have any weird motive in asking this, but how would you assess Winston Churchill ?” he asked.

Cooper went on to not only submit that “Churchill was the chief villain of the Second World War” but to peddle a soft defense of the Nazis and massively understate what occurred during the Holocaust.

“You know, Germany, look, they put themselves into a position in Adolf Hitler’s chiefly responsible for this, but his whole regime is responsible for it, that when they went into the east in 1941, they launched a war where they were completely unprepared to deal with the millions and millions of prisoners of war, of local political prisoners, and so forth that they were going to have to handle,” Holocaust,”  asserted Cooper. “They went in with no plan for that and they just threw these people into camps. And millions of people ended up dead there.”

A spokesman for Vance nevertheless told Jewish Insider on Thursday that Vance would not be backing away, much less cutting ties with the controversial commentator.

“Senator Vance doesn’t believe in guilt-by-association cancel culture, but he obviously does not share the views of the guest interviewed by Tucker Carlson. There are no stronger supporters of our allies in Israel or the Jewish community in America than Senator Vance and President Trump,” said the spokesman.

The Bulwark’s Marc Caputo reported that Vance pre-recorded an interview with Carlson (he is also set to appear with at a live even later this month) on Thursday, just a few days after Carlson released the interview with Cooper.

Although Vance seemed to imply that the connection between Carlson and Cooper — who has defended his position online by insisting that Hitler sought peace and “an acceptable solution to the Jewish problem” — it would seem that Carlson did more than engage in a conversation with him.

While promoting the interview on X, Carlson praised Cooper as “the best and most honest popular historian in the United States.”

“His latest project is the most forbidden of all: trying to understand World War Two,” he continued.

Moreover, Carlson did nothing to correct the record as Cooper presented his alternative history and actually seemed to buy into it completely.

“Why would he do that?” asked Carlson incredulously after Cooper accused Churchill of carrying out “the greatest, you know, scale of terrorist attacks you’ve ever seen in world history.”
