Doug Emhoff Reveals to Jimmy Kimmel This Big Kamala Harris DNC Surprise

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff was the guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, and he revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris’s surprise appearance on the first night of the Democratic National Convention was also a surprise to him .

This part of the conversation begins around the 4:16 mark, after Emhoff explained how he got the pianist from his wedding reception to come to Chicago for the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary. (Host Jimmy Kimmel joked: “You know, Stevie Wonder was [there] earlier.”) Then Emhoff recounted how he had no idea his wife (the Vice President) was at the DNC that night:

Kimmel: When the Vice President did a surprise walk on — because people expected that she would speak at the end of the DNC — she came out right at the beginning, which I thought was a great move. Is it true that you did not know that she was doing that?

Emhoff: Yeah, and I was so consumed knowing that I had to give my speech the next night. And so I was there, in some ways I wasn’t there because I was really trying to focus on, okay, man, there’s a lot of people here. There’s so much energy, the signs, and I have to get up there somehow. And so when I saw her come out, I was like, “Whaaaaaaat?” But my new best friend Tim Walz is right next to me, and he’s just losing his mind.

Kimmel then rolled the clip of Harris’s entrance, which cut to a very surprised-looking Emhoff in the crowd.
