Illegal fireworks to blame for Colorado blaze that put homes at risk
Last Friday, the Garfield County Sheriff's Office and the Grand Valley Fire Protection District helped to stop a brush fire in Battlement Mesa from spreading and damaging nearby structures. The blaze was located in the area of Lodgepole Circle and was about an acre when authorities arrived on the scene around noon. The fire had already destroyed several fences and was putting several nearby homes at risk. With an effective response, crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. ...

Body found in Glenwood Canyon ID’ed as Avon resident
Missing Avon resident Vicente Roblero was found dead in the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon and recovered by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, June 2. Roblero, 39, was last seen leaving his home around 1 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. His family reported him missing to the Avon Police Department in the evening of Friday, May 17.
I-70 closure near Rifle reopened after closure
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - The West Rifle exit of I70 has been reopened after temporarily being closed to due to a traffic accident, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred near mile marker 87, and traffic is being detoured to Highway 6, according to officials.

New detox facility to open in Glenwood Springs
A group of local governments and organizations celebrated the completion of a new detox facility in Glenwood Springs on Thursday. The Western Slope nonprofit Mind Springs Health will operate the facility. Mind Springs is part of a 12-member partnership that conceptualized and helped construct the new space in what the organization refers to as a “community-driven solution.”

Man saves woman and baby from burning car
RIFLE, Colo. (KREX) — Back in April, a man saved a woman and her baby from their car just before it burst into flames after a crash on Highway 82. On Wednesday, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Department honored him as a hero by giving him a Citizens Life Saving Award.
