Rabbi Swartz again invited by Vatican to address climate change
For the second time in three years, Rabbi Daniel Swartz will fly to Italy to address climate change with the Vatican at a conference of faith groups from across the globe. From Oct. 21 through Oct. 24, Swartz, 62, will be one of about 50 religious figures invited to attend the Vatican's "Going Further, Faster Together: Towards a Global Multi faith Women led Climate Action Network" — a conference just outside of Rome in Frascati, Italy, intended to lay the groundwork for faith groups to work together to address climate change globally, with a focus on women-led groups, Swartz said.
Local doctor donates home-grown produce
Dr. Enrico Pelicci, a second-year resident physician at The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education’s Internal Medicine Residency Program, drops off a load of homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers, and apples at Friends of the Poor’s Jackson Terrace Food Pantry in Scranton. Pelicci has been growing, harvesting, and donating fresh-grown produce throughout the summer growing season. To date he donated more than 105 pounds of fruits and vegetables he grew at his home in Waverly Twp. “Farming is backbreaking work, but when we drop off what we’ve grown at Friends of the Poor, people are so grateful,” Pelicci said in a release.

Hands-on cooking series in Bradford County promotes heart health
TOWANDA — People have the opportunity to learn new recipes for inexpensive meals that promote healthy living. Penn State Extension has partnered with Farmer Fred’s in Towanda for its hands-on cooking series. The program started its first session Thursday at the farmer’s market on South Main Street. Three more sessions will follow on Sept. 5, 12 and 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Farmer Fred's.

BEAVER — Beaver Area’s offense picked up right where it left off last week after its Week 0 win as it used a 28-point third quarter to cruise in Saturday afternoon’s game defeating Blackhawk 56-28. Following a Beaver Area (2-0) touchdown, the Cougars looked to have gained momentum back at the midway point of the third quarter when Brayden McCarthy broke free for a 34-yard score to cut the Bobcat lead down to 15 points with 7:34 to play in the quarter.

The bags were distributed to students in Classroom No. 2 at the Pittston New Street Center, which Chewy Pharmacy sponsors as part of the Adopt-A-Classroom program. WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes women's soccer team opened their season at Bruggeworth Field on Saturday afternoon, but the festivities were spoiled by Oswego State as the Colonels fell to the Lakers 2-1. Oswego opened the scoring early as Katie Delgrosso tapped the ball into the back of the net after a save by first-year goalkeeperDelaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) at 1:56 to give the Lakers the early lead.

MAHWAH, NJ – Wilkes University men's soccer fell in a back and forth battle against Ramapo College this afternoon with a score of 2-4. The game started with Ramapo quickly opening the scoring, recording two goals in the sixth and eighth minutes, both scored by Ponce Gianfranco. Wilkes responded in the 42nd minute with a goal by Landon Kelly (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus Senior High School) to get the Colonels on the board. In goal, Matthew Conti (Florence, NJ/Florence Township Memorial High School) made two saves on four shots on goal.
Warren Police Arrest NY Man for Receiving Stolen Property and Eluding Police
WARREN, NJ -- — Warren Township Chief of Police Robert Ferreiro on Friday announced the arrest of Abdourahmane Seck, age 35, of Bronx, NY. Chief Ferreiro stated that on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at approximately 9 PM, Warren Township Police received an alert from an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR), affixed within Warren Township, of a vehicle bearing a stolen license plate. Within minutes of receiving the alert, officers located the vehicle in a shopping center where a suspect was also located. When officers attempted to approach the suspect, he fled the shopping center at a high rate of speed, driving recklessly, disregarding red traffic signals, and improperly passing other vehicles. Officers attempted a motor vehicle stop, but the suspect continued at a high rate of speed, ultimately eluding the officers.
