Iowa Launches Online Hub for Parents Seeking Child Care Solutions
A new Iowa-operated website has launched geared at helping Iowa parents find and compare childcare options in the state. Announced by Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Director Kelly Garcia, the new site was unveiled this past Thursday, August 22 at the capital in Des Moines.
Treasurer Smith Looking to Honor Grandparents with Unclaimed Property this Grandparents Day
(Des Moines) State Treasurer Roby Smith is recognizing Grandparents Day, which will be celebrated on September 8 this year, by encouraging Iowans to search for unclaimed money in the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, Iowa’s only legitimate unclaimed property source. Smith said, “The bond between grandparents and grandchildren is special. Grandparents Day lets us honor our grandparents for the wisdom they offer and the joy they bring. It’s also a great reminder for people of all ages to check and see if they have a treasure to claim.”
Alton Man Receives Prison Sentence
Orange City, Iowa — An Alton man will serve prison time after accepting a plea agreement to several charges in Sioux County District Court. According to the Sioux County Attorney’s Office, 22-year-old Dalton Kade DenHartog Hopcroft was sentenced August 26 for OWI Third Offense, Operating Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent, Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, and a probation violation for previous OWI and Drug Possession convictions.
New swing set installation slated as next project
OCHEYEDAN—Improvements at the Ocheyedan City Park are allowing for more fun for all ages, even as the end of summer draws near. Ocheyedan City Park Friends received a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Osceola County and a $3,000 grant from Lyon County Riverboat Foundation earlier this year for city park updates. With the allocated $8,000 in grant funds and additional money from fundraisers, the organization spent an estimated $10,000 on updates at the park this summer.
