Man Charged for Fatally Striking Bicyclist With Truck in Cherokee Receives Prison Sentence
The man accused of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Cherokee two years ago has been sentenced to five years in prison. 30-year-old Casey Herwig was charged with striking a bicyclist while he was driving a pickup truck on December 26th of 2022 at the North 6th Street and West Willow intersection in Cherokee. Authorities discovered the bicyclist, Phillip Watterson, lying in the roadway. Authorities allegedly discovered damage on the front of the vehicle that matched parts found at the scene.
Main Street Coon Rapids Is Bringing The Circus To Town Tuesday Night
The Culpepper & Merriweather (C&M) Circus is coming to Coon Rapids with two shows full of non-stop entertainment. Tomorrow (Tuesday) evening, C&M Circus will perform at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Beck’s Hybrids town parking lot located on Railway St. between Fifth and Sixth Avenue. Everyone is invited to witness Leo the Clown, lions, tigers, horses, acrobats, and much more. Presale tickets are available on C&M Circus website until 10 p.m. tonight (Monday) for a discounted price. A link to the website is included with this story on carrollbroadcasting.com. Tickets can otherwise be purchased at the event for $16 for adults, $9 for kids and seniors, and children aged two and under can get in for free. A portion of the proceeds from tickets will go back to Main Street Coon Rapids (MSCR) who is sponsoring the event. MSCR is proud to be able to bring the C & M Circus to Coon Rapids and hopes everyone can come down for a fun night under the big tent. Volunteers are still needed to take tickets the night of the event, anyone interested is asked to contact the MSCR office at 712-999-4769.
Rapid City teen sentenced to prison for Red Lobster assault
RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City teenager has been sentenced to prison for assaulting a local couple during an attempted carjacking in December 2023. Jesse Walters, 18, was 17 when he and another juvenile attacked the couple in the parking lot of Red Lobster on Disk Drive. The woman was in her car while her husband collected their take-out order. Walters and his accomplice assaulted her, prompting her to run into the restaurant. When her husband returned, he was beaten with a baton. Both suspects were quickly apprehended, with one detained by a bystander.
