Midtown is gearing up to welcome Clout , a new dining and hookah hotspot located at 306 N Cleveland St . The upcoming eatery promises not only delicious dishes but also an ambiance that’s as unique as its owner, DeAngelo Anderson .

Inspired by the contemporary cultural phenomenon of ‘clout,’ the restaurant takes its name from this widely popular term. Anderson, a Memphis native, describes clout as an intangible asset—“something that everyone wants, but we can’t physically see it or touch it.” With Clout, he’s transforming that elusive quality into a tangible reality.

The menu at Clout presents a delightful fusion of sophistication and innovation, showcasing dishes such as lamb pasta, chicken and shrimp pasta, and the pièce de résistance—a deluxe lobster burger with both chicken and bacon. Anderson’s unique vision is reflected not only in the menu but also in the restaurant’s atmosphere.

Step inside Clout, and you’ll be transported into a neon sea of pink, purple, and electric blue clouds, featuring hanging chandeliers and murals drawn by local artist DudeThatDraw . Anderson has spared no detail, even customizing the booths to create a dreamlike atmosphere. As he puts it, “It’s like clouds—really—it’s literally clouds everywhere on the inside.” Hookah will also be available in a variety of flavors, adding to the sensory, cloud-like atmosphere that permeates the space.

But Clout is much more than a vibey restaurant; it stands as a testament to Anderson’s resilience and determination. Just a year ago, he faced a tragic incident where he was shot nine times, enduring incomprehensible physical setbacks, as well as challenges with unscrupulous business partners. Undeterred, Anderson has alchemized adversity into opportunity, taking a hands-on approach to build Clout from the ground up.

“I had to step in and be kind of hands-on and create everything that I was investing in,” Anderson shares. Despite formidable obstacles, he persevered, shaping a space that not only mirrors his commitment to positivity but also reflects his desire to create jobs for the community.

As Clout awaits its liquor license approvals and final code enforcement, Anderson continues to work diligently, bringing a touch of clout to the city he proudly calls home. “I’m back and better than ever. I’m walking, I’m still here, and God is still continuing to bless me.”
